RED ORANGE COMPLEX® is a standardized powder extract obtained from the juice of three pigmented varieties of blood orange (Moro, Tarocco and Sanguinello) grown exclusively in a particular area surrounding the Mount Etna volcano in Sicily (Italy). In the wild the pool of active compounds contained in these fruits act as a protective system for the plant against the extreme climatic fluctuations that occur in this area. RED ORANGE COMPLEX® extracts contain the specific blend of these substances: anthocyanins, hydroxycinnamic acids, flavanones and ascorbic acid. RED ORANGE COMPLEX® is available in two different powder extracts.

WHAT IT DOES

RED ORANGE COMPLEX® supplementation is able to decrease oxidative stress in subjects with compromised antioxidant defences, such as smokers, sportsmen, diabetics and people exposed to air pollution. Moreover, experimental studies further showed that RED ORANGE COMPLEX® taken orally inhibits skin damage induced by excessive sun exposure (cutaneous erythema and photoaging).

HOW TO USE

RED ORANGE COMPLEX® can be used in dietary supplements (capsules, tablets, granules, sachets) and functional foods (solids and instantaneous drinks) aimed at controlling oxidative stress and protecting skin against UV-induced damages.

RED ORANGE COMPLEX® PROTECTION AGAINST OXIDATIVE STRESS: IN VITRO AND CLINICAL STUDIES

The healthy effects of RED ORANGE COMPLEX® and its active components have been demonstrated in several scientific papers and different experimental models (1-4). Clinical studies (5-7) showed that RED ORANGE COMPLEX® taken orally is able to counteract the oxidative stress of subjects with compromised antioxidant capacities. Results obtained in these studies showed that RED ORANGE COMPLEX® supplementation can increase plasma concentrations of biomarkers related to the presence of antioxidant endogenous substances (glutathione and its derivatives), such as thiolic groups-SH level in sportsmen (5). Moreover, it can reduce oxidative stress biomarker values to physiological range, as shown in D-Roms test results (Fig.1).

ROC FOR SKIN UV-PROTECTION

In vitro studies, carried out using cell cultures of keratinocytes, supported the use of red orange extract to prevent cutaneous damage generated by UV sun exposure (8,9). A clinical study (10) proved that RED ORANGE COMPLEX® oral supplementation was able to counteract skin hyperpigmentation of solar lentigo induced by repeated UV exposure and to improve the homogeneity of skin tanning (Fig. 2).
